APPLIED R&D FOR INTELLIGENCE

Hard questions.
Working prototypes.

We combine intelligence expertise, modern agentic methods, and disciplined software engineering to develop and test new intelligence capabilities.

Discuss a research problem ↗

A PLACE TO START

An important intelligence problem.
A promising idea.
No proven route yet.

That is where Scout comes in.

01 / CAPABILITIES

From research question to tested capability.

Applied research

Explore whether a data source, method, or technical approach can address an intelligence problem. Test assumptions and identify what is worth building.

Feasibility studies · Data evaluation · Method development

Prototyping

Turn a promising idea into a working tool, algorithm, or workflow. Build something useful enough to put the approach to a real test.

Software prototypes · Algorithms · Integrations

Technical validation

Establish what works, where it breaks, and what further development would require. Evaluate against clear criteria rather than a polished demonstration.

Baseline comparisons · Evaluation results · Next-step recommendations

Areas of work: open-source intelligence, geospatial methods, algorithms and data workflows, and agentic systems.

02 / OUR APPROACH

Modern methods.
Engineering discipline.

We pair modern agentic workflows with established software engineering practices to support research, experimentation, and rapid prototyping. The aim is more than a compelling demonstration: it is a working prototype whose behavior can be examined, whose limitations are understood, and whose next steps are grounded in evidence.

Use agents where they help.

Agentic workflows are part of how we research and build. Agentic systems are one possible deliverable—not the assumed answer to every problem.

Keep the engineering inspectable.

Clear architecture, readable code, testing, and documentation are part of the work. Human review and judgment remain central.

Make the evidence reproducible.

Document assumptions, evaluate against baselines, and record limitations. A useful prototype should clarify the decision—not just make the demo work.

03 / HOW WE WORK

A clear path through an uncertain problem.

01

Frame the question.

Define the intelligence need, available data, constraints, and what a useful result would look like.

02

Build and test.

Develop the smallest useful prototype, run experiments, and refine the approach as evidence comes in.

03

Make the next step clear.

Deliver the prototype, research notes, and evaluation results—with an honest assessment of what further development would require.

04 / ABOUT SCOUT

Engineering depth.
Practitioner perspective.

Scout Intel is an independent research and prototyping shop centered on intelligence.

The practice brings together a decade of software engineering experience and four years of hands-on intelligence practice—connecting an understanding of the problem with the ability to build and test a solution.

Intelligence is the domain. Research and prototyping are the work. Modern methods and engineering discipline are the approach.

05 / START A CONVERSATION

Bring the question.
Let’s test what’s possible.

Tell us about the intelligence problem, the idea you want to explore, and any relevant data, constraints, or timeline. You do not need a finished specification to start.

Please do not include confidential material or sensitive personal information in this form.
